Where to get help

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides several methods you may utilize to find information and request assistance:

  • Our website is available 24/7 at https://support.cumberland.edu/portal
  • Walk up help desk hours are available in our offices in the basement of Labry Hall. Please check our website for directions to our office and our current walk up hours.
  • Help Desk requests can be submitted electronically on our support site.

We are unable to provide break/fix support for personal equipment. We can provide you with a consultation and refer you to local repair facilities if needed.

Internet Access

All on-ground students are provided with wireless Internet access in residence halls, academic facilities, and other locations on campus. Our residence halls also have wired network access in each room. Utilizing the wired network will require the purchase of a "CAT 5e" or "CAT 6" network cable. Network cables are available at the CU Bookstore, local office supply shops, big box stores, and online retailers.

Protecting Your Electronic Devices

Please consider the following recommendations:

  • Be sure to keep your electronic devices stored in a secure location when they are not in use.
  • Utilize a lock screen on all of your mobile devices. Both Android and Apple iOS provide this feature out of the box. If your device is lost or stolen, a lock screen can help prevent unauthorized access to your personal information. If you need assistance setting up a lock screen, please come by the help desk during walk up hours.
  • Having a good anti-virus/anti-spyware program is essential. Most new computers come with this kind of program installed. If you do not have a program like this, or your subscription has expired, we can recommend Avast (http://www.avast.com). This program is a free download if you are a home, non-commercial user, and it does a good job protecting against both viruses and spyware.
