HIS 427 American Indian History
This course examines important topics in American Indian history. From the Mayan and Aztec civilizations and the great metropolis of Cahokia through today's casinos and reservations, students will read Indians' depictions of their lives and strangers' understandings and misunderstandings of Indians to learn about how American Indians shaped our world past and present. Students will also read American Indian newspapers, explore how movies, television, and the Internet have shaped America's perceptions of Indians, and discuss current political, economic, and cultural movements in Indian country.
