Policy Provisions
1. Visitor Policy Introduction
The Doris and Harry Vise Library exists to provide academic support to the students, faculty and staff of Cumberland University.
Occasionally, other individuals seek to make use of the Library and we extend this courtesy on a limited basis. In order to maximize the availability materials, computing resources and study space for members of the Cumberland University community, the following visitor policy is in effect.
All visitors must sign in at the Information Desk upon entering the Library. Please provide the information requested during each visit. Visitors who do not sign in will be asked to do so or leave the premises.
Visitors may use the Library’s books and periodicals onsite for research purposes, providing use does not conflict with the Library’s primary responsibility to the students, faculty, and staff of Cumberland University.
Only currently enrolled Cumberland University students and Cumberland faculty and staff may check materials out of the library or make interlibrary loan requests.
2. Visitor Access to Library Computers
Visitors do not have access to Library computersor University computing networks.
The primary purpose of the Library’s computers is to provide access to online resource subscriptions and course materials. Access to Library databases is restricted to CU students, faculty and staff. Exceptions can be made, on a limited basis, for visitors who may need to use the computers for research purposes only. Use is limited to one time only for 30 minutes and can be restricted during busy times depending on the availability of computers. You may request guest access upon signing-in at the Information Desk.
3. Group Meeting Rooms
Group meeting rooms are not available to visitors due to the high demand for campus meeting space.
4. Photocopying
There is a .10 per page charge for photocopying and printing including copies made from the microfilm reader/printer. There is a .05 per page charge for scanning. Please pay at the Information Desk.
5. Minors
Minors must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian.
Visitors are expected to respect the rules of the Library and to maintain a quiet atmosphere conducive to study and research. Those whose behavior is disruptive will be asked to leave the premises and will not be permitted to return.
6. Community Group Visits
Community groups, including school classes, are welcome to visit the Library but should contact the Library Director at least one week in advance to discuss the purpose of the visit and to schedule an appropriate time.
7. Group Visits During Final Exams
Group visits are not allowed during final exams.
Visitors are expected to respect the rules of the Library and to maintain a quiet atmosphere conducive to study and research. The Library Director reserves the right to temporarily or permanently suspend library access privileges to visitors for any reason. In the absence of the Director, the staff member in charge retains this right.
