2021-2022 Catalog

Veterans’ Benefits

  • Any individual eligible for educational benefits from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs should file an application with the V.A. one month prior to enrollment. Benefit counseling and questions of eligibility for specific programs should be directed by telephone or in writing to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Office.
  • An enrollment certification (V.A. form 22-1999) will be completed each term by the Registrar after the registration process has been completed. A student must request that this form be filed by checking the appropriate section of the Academic Information Update Sheet, which is completed as part of the registration process.
  • Academic credit may be allowed for some training received while in military service. Questions concerning service-related credit should be directed to the Registrar’s Office at the University. Transfer credit will be evaluated by the Registrar’s Office.
  • The University urges individuals needing information or assistance with any veterans’ benefit program to contact an eligibility counselor at the nearest V.A. office.

Note: Cumberland is authorized by the State of Tennessee to offer training to veterans and other eligible persons under laws administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

Any covered individual will be able to attend or participate in the course of education during the period beginning on the date on which the individual provides to the educational institution a certificate of eligibility for entitlement to educational assistance under chapter 31 or 33 (a “certificate of eligibility” can also include a “Statement of Benefits” obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) website – eBenefits, or a VAF 28-1905 form for chapter 31 authorization purposes) and ending on the earlier of the following dates:

  1. The date on which payment from VA is made to the institution.
  2. 90 days after the date the institution certified tuition and fees following the receipt of the certificate of eligibility.

Cumberland University will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, or the requirement that a covered individual borrow additional funds, on any covered individual because of the individual’s inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement funding from VA under chapter 31 or 33.
