MATH 098 Basic Algebra
This course is for those students whose background in mathematics is insufficient for MATH 110 (Mathematics for the Liberal Arts) or MATH 111 (College Algebra). It assumes a previous knowledge of algebra at the elementary level and provides all prerequisites for MATH 110 and MATH 111. Topics to be covered include equations, inequalities, factoring, radicals and rational exponents, quadratic equations, functions, and basic exponential and logarithmic functions. This course will not satisfy the Mathematics requirement in the GEC. Students who have completed any higher-level Mathematics courses are not eligible to enroll in MATH 098. This course does not count toward the Mathematics major. Students are placed into this course based on ACT mathematics sub-scores (17 or below) and/or Cumberland University Mathematics Placement Test scores (Students with 18-21 ACT mathematics sub-scores are required to take the placement test). Students who must repeat MATH 098 to improve their grade are also required to take MATH 100 while enrolled in this course.
