NUR 314 Pharmacology in Nursing I
This course introduces the nursing student to the basic principles of pharmacology with focus on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacotherapeutics. Medication efficacy is discussed in accordance with evidenced-based practice with clients across the life span. Drug classifications which are emphasized in this course are those which affect the central nervous system, peripheral nervous and cardiovascular system. This course provides the student with core knowledge regarding principles of pharmacology to facilitate critical thinking skills which will assist in assessing client responses to drugs. The importance of communicating drug facts to clients as a component of informed consent is emphasized. The necessity for interdisciplinary communication, combined with accountability and integrity are essential for promoting client safety. Two classroom hours per week. Fee: $245.00 testing fee.
